Old reliable – that’s the Toyota Camry. The sensible choice of the car world — dependable, comfortable, and respectable when seen in the parent drop line at your kid’s school. For 2025, Toyota doesn’t mess with its tried and true formula but instead poses an interesting question: “What if we just made every Camry a hybrid?”

The result is a sedan that’s incredibly efficient, easy on your wallet, and stylish, particularly in the ever so attractive XSE trim. For parents juggling car seats, treasuring cargo space for after school sports gear, and a quiet commute for napping toddlers, the 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid might still be one of the smartest car purchases on the market.

What This Dad Digs about the 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid XSE

Lots of New in 2025 – The Camry lineup is now hybrid-only and not only does that shift make total sense, it should bestow Toyota with the moniker of “leader” in this industry segment. Who doesn’t want more bang for their gas buck? Also new for this year is updated exterior styling, improved infotainment tech, and enhanced driver-assist features (more on these in a bit.) Surprisingly, Toyota is also making an All Wheel Drive option available – something you don’t always see with a hybrid system.

What we all came for: Fuel Economy – A hybrid party don’t stop, and now in its 5th generation, Camry’s hybrid system is better than it’s ever been. Under the hood sits a 2.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine accompanied by an electric motor capable of producing 232 horsepower in the AWD configuration and 225 horsepower in the standard front wheel drive. With 163 lb-ft of torque, the Camry is quick but it won’t win any drag races,of course. City streets and open highway roads are where this hybrid badboy shines, producing an impressive 50 miles to the gallon combined in both those driving situations.

Zen Driving – The kids arguing in the back seat is more than enough stress for any parent, so the act of driving should be as painless as possible. Thankfully, driving the 2025 Camry is zen. It offers a smooth ride by masking potholes and rough roads with ease. Responsive steering makes for a comfortable handling experience, especially navigating busy grocery store parking lots or carpool lanes. The Camry is a good length but it never feels overwhelming and instead is a breeze to handle in traffic. Best of all, the cabin is blissful quiet, even at high speeds, thanks in part to the electric portion of the motor.

The XSE package adds some fine-tuned suspension that delivers even sharper handling and a more engaged driving experience. 19-inch alloy wheels give the Camry an aggressive stance and allows for a more grounded feel.

Room for More – For a midsize sedan, the Camry can boast a very decent amount of space for both adults and kids. Up front there is a generous 38.3 inches of headroom and 42.1 inches of legroom – particularly useful for longer car rides. In the back, passengers are treated to 37.6 inches of headroom and 38 inches of legroom. My daughter’s carseats fit comfortably in the back, with plenty of room left over for their legs. Special shout out to Toyota’s child seat anchors which are extremely easy to access and latch the seats onto.

The Camry also sports a spacious trunk with plenty of space for day-to-day cargo like groceries, sports equipment, etc. The wheel wells might make it tricky to get a large stroller in but a wagon or small stroller should be no problem. The rear seats do fold down allowing for additional space for longer items.

Tech & Safety Come Standard – Toyota loads the 2025 Camry Hybrid with safety tech that even the base model receives with no expensive packages necessary. That means that Toyota’s proven suite of safety tech like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring come standard. The infotainment system has also gotten an upgrade and is much more intuitive than the previous software. It’s clear that the user interface is built on top of a version of Android which allows for a more elegant and simplistic design which is a breeze to navigate. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included.

The gorgeous 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster in the Camry I tested come standard on the XSE trim. It would be difficult to imagine a smaller screen in this sedan.

XSE Appeal – The Camry has always been a handsome sedan but it now flaunts a lean and mean style that still feels accessible. The nose of this 2025 Camry is already sleek but add in the XSE trim level grille and it becomes next level. Black glossy highlights are added throughout the body of the vehicle, adding an edgy, sporty stance. Inside, exciting options like the red leather seat option that our test vehicle came with create a luxurious and energetic feel – even if the overall interior design has some faults. Overall, the balance of sport and luxury that Toyota is attempting here works at almost every level, creating enough of a vibe to make me feel like a cool dad.

What Gets This Dad’s Downvote

Not Enough Muscle – The Camry was never a “muscle car” but it certainly had more “ompfh” in past iterations. As efficient as the hybrid engine may be, the loss of a naturally aspirated V-6 engine means that there is no “fun-dad” mode where I can put pedal-to-the-metal and experience an exhilaration of speed. To be fair, acceleration in the 2025 Camry is adequate but not exciting. In fact, while driving I could feel the car’s hybrid engine prioritizing efficiency over the power I was attempting to feed it through the pedals. It’s a shame too because from the styling alone, it looks like this Camry is ready to launch!

Underwhelming Interior – As impressive as the exterior of the 2025 Camry is — especially with the XSE package — the interior is a bit of a mixed bag. The design aesthetics from the exterior are carried through into the cabin but here everything feels too angular, brash, and uninspiring. There are a lot of modern design elements trying to accentuate dated stylings, none of which work as well with the XSE elements as I would hope. None of the interior aesthetics are offensive or an eye-sore but I’ve seen better design stylings in other sedans in this class.

An Old Friend

The Camry feels like an old friend. It’s reliable, approachable, and effective in all the ways you’ve come to expect. Every Dad Driver needs a buddy that’s there for them when needed, and when it comes to hitting the road, the 2025 Camry Hybrid can be that reliable auto partner. It handles family duty very well and the hybrid engine means fewer stops at the gas pump.

Starting at $35,695 with the XSE trim — $37,220 for the all-wheel drive version — the 2025 Camry Hybrid can sit in the higher price range for a sedan, but Toyota is a tried-and-true brand with great resale value. Base price for Camry starts at around $29,495, but once you set eyes on the XSE and the LE trims, it’ll be tough to look back.

The true savings comes in the fuel economy and that’s music to a parent’s ear. If 50 miles to the gallon doesn’t knock your socks off, nothing will. As most parents know, family responsibilities and adventures alike take up a lot of miles and in the 2025 Camry, those hours are spent comfortably and less expensive. What more can you ask for.
